About the Artist
Using the finest handwoven silks and
yarns combined with French ribbons, Reeva creates tallitot,
kipot, women's kipa hats, chupot, Torah mantles, challa
and matzah covers and any other fiber creation you may wish
to have designed. A calligrapher with 18 years of experience,
Reeva enhances these creations with Hebrew and English lettering
and appropriate decoration. Personalization is a specialty.
All of the seamstress and crotchetiers
are Jewish Russian immigrants--"a mutual delight,"
says Reeva. They are excited about working on Judaic items
and she is blessed with their superior hand skills.
A Modern Interpretation of the
Traditional - by Reeva
After many years as a calligrapher
and graphic designer, I was asked to paint on an existing
synagogue chupah (wedding canopy). My love affair with fabrics
began at that moment and continues to this day.
I start with the most luscious fabrics
I can find, combine them with wonderful ribbons, trims and
braids, sew them into Tallitot (prayer shawls), Torah mantles,
chupot, or other Judaic textiles, and enhance them with
painted or appliquéd calligraphic texts. All these
elements seem to transcend themselves and form a whole that
imbues a spiritual quality. I am blessed and constantly
amazed that the work of my hands allows others to feel more
fully of their Jewish selves. I am deeply thankful that
what I absolutely love creating is coveted by others.
I design and fabricate: Tallitot, Kippot,
Chupot, Torah Mantles, Parochet (Ark curtains), Lectern
Covers, Ben Gavrot (cover for resting Torah), Challah Covers,
Matzah Covers, Wall Hangings, Wedding Aisle Banner, Palls
(Coffin Cover)
Examples of my art can be seen in museum
collections and synagogues throughout the world as well
as in the homes and on the shoulders of young and old.
Please call me to discuss all
your Judaica fabric needs.
